About Us / Rivers End Nursery & Farm History: We are a small Tropical Fruit Orchard that began as an experiment started by Ed in 1987 to see what different kinds of fruit trees might grow in the Valley. Since then we have evolved to a giant experiment to see just what we can grow here.
Over the years, people have heard about the things Ed was growing and came to see them. The emotions that so many of these people shared on how a particular plant or fruit was a linked to their history inspired Ed to share his passion and plants with others —thus the Nursery was started.
Because our grandchildren enjoy finding what is ripe at Grandpa's, it is important to us that we do not need to worry about the fruits the children pluck from the trees. Growing tropical and subtropical fruits in our area does mean we push the envelope at times. But enjoying the sweet and creamy sugar apple or having dessert first with the lushious exotic mango makes the tasks worthwhile. We expanded into small batch, handcrafted artisanal jams and jellies and ice creams as a way to use our harvest wisely and to enjoy those flavors when the fruits are out of season.
Whether it is planting correctly or having the experience of a new taste, educating our customers is important to us. The apex of that philosophy is on display at the Mango Fiestival, our all annual celebration of all things mango featuring a tasting and flavor evaluation table, programs on growing mango trees and culinary presentations of foods featuring mangos.
We’re looking forward to sharing our part of pure paradise here in deep South Texas.
