About Us / La Mesa Village Farmers Market History: Established in 1993
The City of La Mesa has operated the La Mesa Farmers Market in La Mesa's Downtown Village area for over 20 years, making our market one of the longest-running & most successful farmers' markets in the region. From its very first day of operation in August 1993, the market has provided fresh, healthy produce and unique food items to local residents and visitors from throughout San Diego County, every Friday, rain or shine.
In May 2011, the market moved from its original site to a new site at La Mesa Civic Center (i.e., City Hall), at the foot of Date Ave., near the intersection of University Avenue & Spring Street. The new, larger site allowed the market to expand and add many new farmers, specialty food vendors, and more hot food choices. The City Hall site also offered better access, visibility and free parking. In October 2013, the City celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the market, paying tribute to its loyal customers, both new and old, and honoring a fine La Mesa tradition.
