About Us / Eden Place Farms History: Eden place farms was established in 2011 by Amelia and Michael Howard. They saw a need for an Urban Agriculture Organization to exist in the community of Fuller Park.
“Our mission is to teach people how to grow food and promote the benefits that local food production bring to our neighborhoods. We believe access to locally-grown, chemical-free fruits and vegetables is a right, not a privilege. We envision the day when everyone in our city and country grows and eats fresh, local and healthy food.”
An integral part of educating people about growing their own food is demonstrating how to do it sustainably and with the least harm to our bodies and the earth. To achieve this, Eden Place Farms operates two production sites in the Chicago area that are open to the public and serve as platforms for our teaching work. Eden Place Farms South is a 3 acre production farm that grows a variety of vegetables for the surrounding community and local farmers markets. The Eden Place Farm North 5acres, an aggregate of 10 city lots located adjacent to Eden Place Nature Center enable our organization to grow seedlings for various projects as well as additional fruits and vegetable. As more people become interested in starting their own urban agriculture operations, we strive to ensure that these demonstration sites model what effective city farming can look like.
