About Us / Black Forest Dorpers History: We are a family of 14 (husband, wife and 12 children - 10 adopted from 7 countries) who decided to use our five acres of beautiful Black Forest Colorado land to raise something good for both our family and for others. We started with chickens several years ago, which has been enough to just supply our growing family. Then we decided to add fiber sheep (2 Shetland sheep) which led to Alpacas (4 with one expecting) and Angora rabbits (1 currently). We harvest the fiber from the animals which my wife then spins and she and a few of our kids then knit into beautiful and useful items. Our next adventure was to add sheep for meat. We purchased an existing herd of Dorper sheep (1 Ram and 6 ewes and their lambs) and began our micro-production operation for lamb last year. We breed lambs (full blood and pure bred) for sale for breeding purposes or for meat production. We have sold to individuals and restaurants with lots of positive reviews for the lambs and the meat our customers have purchased. We plan to produce 8-16 lambs a year at present, with plans to expand in the future. We also also offer our Ram for stud purposes. We have also started raising bees for honey. While we lost our 3 hives this past year, we plan to replace them this year to again begin producing honey for personal consumption and also possible sale if the harvest is plentiful.
